Geneva

Having not been away since summiting Mont Blanc, I decided it was time for another holiday. Britton and I did the classic “Skyscanner: price low to high” trick and ended up booking a trip to Geneva.

We arrived at Edinburgh Airport in the morning and were off. Touchdown in Geneva was around midday, followed by a bus into the city centre. We were staying cheaply in a youth hostel - basic, quiet, and clean enough for the price.

We spent the afternoon exploring and somehow ended up having a lot of beers. A familiar theme for the trip.

Geneva 1 Chess Hustlers!

Geneva 2 A chair for a giant.

Geneva 3 Swiss flag looking on the business district.

Cern

One of the days we headed out to see the CERN super collider. Unfortunately, we’d arrived too late to join a tour - bad planning on our part - so instead we found a nearby bar and made the best of the situation (with more beers, naturally).

Cern 1 Cern Dome.

Cern 2 A cool monument beside the super collider.

Annecy

Having covered most of Geneva, we took advantage of the ridiculously cheap bus service and crossed into France to visit Annecy. The beer theme continued, this time switching to Cherry Chouffe.

Annecy 1 Lake Annecy - Stunning!

Annecy 2 The streets of Annecy.

Annecy 3 Views from the bar.

Annecy 4 Iconic Cherry Chuoffe beer.

Chamonix

On our second last day, we headed to Chamonix to try to catch a glimpse of Mont Blanc.

Chamonix 1 Ice cold glacier water.

Chamonix 2 No views of Mont Blanc today.

Overall, Geneva was an okay trip. There’s not a huge amount to do, and if we went again we’d probably stay somewhere in France instead. By the time we got home, a beer detox was very much needed!
